Pleasant Lake Guide Service Doug Strecker kdstrecker@tds.net 218 675 5538 My wife, Kathy, and I built our house on Pleasant Lake (only a long cast from the docks of Twin Springs Resort) in 1993. We have lived here on a year-round basis since 2003. I used to spend about 150 days a year on the water fishing, but plan to spend more, now that I am fully retired. For three summers I drove a launch on Mille Lacs Lake out of West Shore Resort, where the goal was to put the customer on fish, not just a boat ride. My wife and I have fished in several walleye tournaments; collecting several trophies and cash prizes. Fishing is not an obsession in our house, but it is a way of life. My guide boat is a Lund 1775 Pro V powered by Yamaha 115 h.p. four stroke motor. We will have 3 air ride seats, 2 live wells, a 24 volt trolling motor, Lowrance Expedition GPS, and Raymarine depth finder. The lakes we will fish are lakes I have spent thousands of hours on. These are lakes that I know like you know your own home. I have proven techniques, styles and procedures that will work. It would be my pleasure to show you and teach you how they work so that you will be able to catch fish on your own; what ever lake you may be fishing. I am licensed by the state of Minnesota as a Master Pilot-- #01363-MA.
I supply boat, motor, gas, rods, reels, lures, bait, and any thing else needed to catch fish. Customers supply own rain gear, life jacket, food and beverages. NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED IN MY BOAT AT ANY TIME!!! I only fish morning hours. The earlier you can go, the more time we will spend on the water. I want you to catch fish. I will not guarantee fish being caught, but I will give every bit of an effort possible to put fish in the boat. I would like to meet you the day before our fishing trip so we can discuss what type of fish you want to catch and what your expectations are. My goal is to catch fish, teach and have a good time. I do not clean your fish. All fees are payable by cash or check. I do not accept credit cards.
Fees for: Pleasant Lake--$100 total—for 1or 2 people max. We will fish 4-5 hours on Pleasant Lake for Bass, Walleye, and Northern Pike. By fishing with Rapala type lures, jigs with live bait or rigs with live bait, we have the opportunity to catch multiple species at the same time. If you have a preferred species to fish, please let me know ahead of time and we will direct our methods and bait to that species. I do not guide for pan fish.
Leech Lake--$175 total—for 1 or 2 people max. We will fish about 5 hours on Leech Lake exclusively for walleye pike. The earlier we get started, the more time on the water and the better chance of catching a limit of walleyes. We will mainly fish a jig and minnow combo early in the season-mid May –mid June. Then we will shift mainly to live bait rigs through July. Leech Lake has been fabulous for walleyes the past 3 years and looks even better for the future. Nothing is guaranteed, but if catching walleyes is on your mind, this is a good bet.
Red Lake--$250 total—for 1 or 2 people max. We will fish upper Red Lake for walleyes. Red Lake is about a 2 hour drive north of Hackensack. This is a full day trip with about 6 hours of fishing. At times, the walleye fishing can be unbelievably good, but most times it is just excellent. Again, the earlier we get started, the more time we spend fishing in prime time. This is mainly a jig and minnow bite, but we will employ other tactics like bobber fishing, trolling or drifting with live bait rigs. Careful planning is needed for this trip as the weather rules!
Bass Fishing Bonanza--$150 total—for 1or 2 people max. I fish two lakes deep in the Chippewa National Forest. One lake does not have a single cabin or resort on it. Just eagles, loons, deer, and lots of bass. Expect to catch 15 to 25 bass in a morning. The bass average about 11/4 pounds with some in the 3 pound bracket. The other lake has about a dozen cabins on it, but miles of undeveloped shoreline. Not as many bass on this lake but average size will be over 2 pounds with a chance to catch a 4-6 pound fish. Both lakes are strictly catch and release by law. This trip is for the true bass fisherman who has very good casting skills. Most action comes from top water lures, but we also will use spinner baits and crank baits. Again, I supply all equipment needed. This will be a minimum of 4 hours fishing and more if you can get up early. What is early? I like to be on the water no later than sunrise, but prefer at least 20 minutes before sunrise. This is a fun, fast action adventure in a quiet relaxed setting.
